Incognito chats

An incognito chat isn’t saved to your history.

Start one

In a new chat, before you send anything, tap Incognito at the top. A banner confirms: “Incognito — this chat isn’t saved to your history. Usage is still metered and billed.”

Incognito can only be turned on at the start of a new chat, and stays on for the rest of that chat.

What’s different

• The chat doesn’t appear in Recents, Library, search or Saved, and it doesn’t get its own link.
• The chat exists only in the open page. When you close or leave it, it’s gone — there’s no way to get it back.
• Your draft isn’t saved.
• No title is generated.
• Share, Export, Instructions, Compact, Regenerate title and saving messages aren’t available.
• Project files and per-chat instructions (the Instructions button) aren’t used. Your custom instructions and memories from Settings → Personalization still apply.

What’s the same

• The model still reads the conversation so far, so it follows along as normal.
• Web search and attachments work.
• Usage is billed like any chat, and each charge appears in your wallet activity (without a link to a chat).

Good to know

Incognito keeps the chat out of your history; it doesn’t make other things disappear:

• Files you attach are uploaded and kept with your account, like any upload.
• Images you create appear on your Images page.

Incognito isn’t available in Compare.
