Generated titles

When you start a chat, a short title (a few words) is written from your first message by the lowest-priced model of the company you’re chatting with. The small cost is added to the first reply — it shows as Title in that reply’s cost breakdown, and is a fraction of a cent.

Incognito chats don’t get a title. If a title can’t be written, the chat is named from the start of your first message.

Turn it off

Settings → Models → Chat → Generate chat titles. It’s on by default. When it’s off, chats are named from the start of your first message, at no cost.

Rename a chat

In the sidebar, choose ⋯ → Rename on the chat, type the new name and press Enter (Esc cancels). A chat you’ve renamed is never retitled automatically.

Regenerate a title

Choose ⋯ → Regenerate title in the chat. It costs a fraction of a cent, and replaces the current title — even one you typed yourself. You’ll see “Title updated · {price}”. If it fails, you aren’t charged.
